Bight Newspaper reports that the Bayelsa State Government has appealed for calm over the gruesome murder of a 400-level Sociology student, Mr. Francis Paleowei, in Amassoma on Tuesday assuring that government is working closely with security agencies to arrest and prosecute the culprits.

Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo presided over an emergency meeting with community leaders of Amassoma and Obirigbene, urging the bereaved family and community to remain calm. He assured that every necessary step would be taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo called on the Amassoma community to collaborate with security personnel to ensure the apprehension of the murder suspects. He described the incident as unfortunate and urged community leaders to be more alive to their responsibilities to prevent negative occurrences.

The government has arrested the prime suspect, and the Amassoma community is working to arrest the remaining suspects. The student community at NDU is urged to remain calm and law-abiding, as revenge is not necessary.

The bereaved Paleowei family thanked the Bayelsa State Government for its timely intervention and expressed confidence that justice will be served. The Amassoma community praised the Obirigbene community for approaching the matter with maturity and appreciated the government and security agencies for their swift response.
