BAYELSA- Bight News gathered that a lucky fisherman has caught an hippopotamus in Aku-gbene fishing camp in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on Wednesday afternoon.
The fisherman who is identified as Mr Duobo told Bight News that the wild aquatic mammal has been disturbing farms in the camp and neighborhood for a long while and all efforts to trap it down always proved abortive.
“There are times the sea animal will show itself in the middle of the river in a broad daylight and float for hours.” He said.
Mr. Duobo when asked about how he managed to get the big catch, responded that lots of luck fell on him today as himself and other of his colleagues have made several unproductive attempts to kill the aquatic mammal adding that today is the best day of his fishing career.
“All fishermen in this camp has set different kinds of traps for the sea animal. Each attempt is always destroyed.”
“Today is a very lucky day for me since I started fishing in this camp because this hippopotamus is my biggest catch ever” He added.
He further buttressed that he was able to kill the aquarium mammal with the company of his Hausa colleague identified as Muhammed who resides at Polaku Community, Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.
“Whenever Muhammed is going and coming back from his fishing expenditure he always branch to check on me, but this afternoon he finally help me to succeed.
“So I called other fishermen to help bring the animal to the shores of the camp. Everyone is ready to butcher the sea animal.” he added.
