…Excludes Appointees, Civil Servants From Rice Palliative

Bight Newspaper reports that during the 34th state security council meeting in Yenagoa on Monday, Governor Douye Diri cautioned Bayelsa youths against being used by failed politicians who plan to exploit the proposed national protest to destabilize the state.

He revealed that security reports indicate that politicians who lost the last governorship election in the state are plotting to cause chaos.

Governor Diri appealed to the youths to avoid being manipulated by such politicians, emphasizing that they do not have the state’s best interests at heart.

He assured that his administration will not tolerate self-serving politicians disrupting the peace that the state has worked hard to achieve.

While acknowledging the challenges facing the country, Governor Diri advocated for dialogue as a means of resolving issues.

He noted that his administration has been engaging with genuine groups, such as the Ijaw Youth Council led by Jonathan Lokpobiri and student leaders. He emphasized that peaceful protest is a fundamental right, but warned against being used by politicians with ulterior motives.

Governor Diri also directed the arrest of anyone claiming to be the IYC president apart from Lokpobiri.

He announced the receipt of 20 trucks of rice from the Federal Government and instructed immediate distribution to communities across the state, excluding political appointees and civil servants. He emphasized that the palliatives should reach those who genuinely need them, warning against mismanagement.

The governor stated, “There are threats to peace and security across the nation, not only our state. We have heard from reliable sources that the impending protest is being sponsored. While we appeal to the youths of Bayelsa to avoid being used, especially by failed politicians, let me sound a note of warning to all those sponsored to kill our people that this will never be allowed in Bayelsa State. We have empowered the security agencies to deal with such people.”

“To our youths who sincerely love Bayelsa State, we will continue to engage you and continue to dialogue with all those who feel aggrieved. Yes, there is hardship, but as a government, we will not stand idle to watch anybody try to bring down this state.”

“I have directed that the distribution of the 20 trucks of rice received from the Federal Government should start today. That rice should not be given to any political appointee or civil servants. Only those in our communities who do not benefit directly from the government should get it. The rice has no PDP or APC face. I urge all Bayelsans to continue to support their government.”
