Ijaw sons and daughters under the aegis of Concern Bayelsan’s Leaders have called on the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari to confirm the appointment of Prof Nelson Brambaifa as the substantive Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The group made the call today in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State during a solidarity rally for the NDDC “top dog”.
The group enjoined the president never to allow himself to be hoodwinked by the political gimmicks of some selfish Bayelsa politicians in Abuja, who are hell bent to replace the acting MD with their stooge. According to the group, Prof Brambaifa has performed satisfactorily in office within four months, adding that the commission has in recent times executed over an hundred intervention projects which will change the fortune of Ijaw people in the region.
Speaking to Bight News, Chief Perekeme Richard Kpodo (Perry Rich) said the intervention agency was established to develop the Niger Delta region, but regrettably the commission had failed in its responsibility. Chief Kpodo said the commission failed in time past alleging that some politicians from the Niger Delta refused to execute projects awarded to them aimed at developing the region. He called on President Buhari to take note of such people who presently in Abuja to perfect bid at removing the Acting MD, whom to him has done well in office.
Chief Kpodo urged the president to confirm Prof Brambaifa as the MD of NDDC in the interest of Bayelsa State whose turn it’s to produce the commission’s top dog.
His words: “the NDDC was established to develop the Niger Delta. But we have seen that since inception we don’t have development.
“But today we have a son from Bayelsa State, the person of Profession Nelson Brambaifa. Four months only, he has changed the tide. I call on President Muhammadu Buhari to confirm his appointment as MD of NDDC, because he has done well”.
Comrade Jonathan Lokpobiri while commending the developmental strides of the acting NDDC boss, stressed that the appointment of Prof Brambaifa by President Muhammadu Buhari has brought about peace and stability among youths in the region. Adding that, his confirmation would further enhance development in the region, urging the president to confirm him as substantive Managing Director of the commission as soon as possible.
According to Lokpobiri, Brambaifa has been committed to addressing issues that will promote sustainable development in the area. “Peace is key to the development and promotion of economic activities in the country.
“The peace of the region is paramount to the sustainability of Nigeria economically. And Prof Nelson Brambaifa have been committed to sustaining peace and welfare of the Ijaw People since he came on board. This is why we are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to confirm him in the interest of the region” Lokpobiri added.
Receiving a document containing their demands, the NDDC coordinator in Bayelsa State, Mr. Francis Kolokolo, commended the youths and leaders of Bayelsa State for coming out in their numbers in solidarity to demand the confirmation the acting Managing Director as a substantive MD of the commission. He assured the group that their message will be delivered to the Acting MD, Prof, N. Brambaifa and that he’s confident that the president would listen to the yearnings of the people .
Assuring them that despite the distractions the NDDC top dog will remain focused and dedicated to the development of the region, Mr. Kolokolo called on all well-meaning Niger Deltans to support the administration of Prof. Brambaifa. Adding that, volunteers jobs and water Hyacinth jobs are meant for youths and that the gesture would be sustained to enhance the welfare of the people.
