Okuama IDP Camp: Ejiwealth Bemoans Lack Of Adequate Care, Calls Delta Govt, Urhobo Monarchs, UPU, Others To Be More Responsive

Bight Newspaper reports that a Delta born human rights activist and philanthropist, General Ejiwealth Emareyo has heavily decried the poor state of things at the camp set up by the Delta State Government for the Internally Displaced Persons, IDP for the Okuama people at Ewu-Urhobo.

In a statement personally issued on Tuesday, Gen. Ejiwealth expressed disappointment at the State Government for not providing particularly adequate health care for the people whom he claimed were innocently made homeless by the Nigeria Army over an incident that occurred in March 14.

He also gave the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sherrif Oborevwori a two weeks ultimatum to pay a visit to the IDP Camp situated at Ewu-Urhobo.

Encouraging Urhobo Monarchs, UPU and other relevant agencies to be more responsible to their people, he enjoined them to shun politics and deal with core issues affecting the people.

He reminded the kings of how Yoruba led governments had destroyed two communities in the Niger Delta, warning that such actions may result to anarchy someday.

Ejiwealth finally called on all agencies to show empathy and give the displaced Okuama people a sense of love, hope and care.

His words: ” I received with great shock the very poor and pitiable condition of living the people of Okuama are subjected to at the IDP Camp set up by the Delta State Government in Ewu-Urhobo.

“I am highly disappointed at the government of the day, the UPU and the traditional rulers council of Urhobo nation for leaving these people to reckless abandon without adequate provision of basic life amenities such as food and healthcare.

“I watched a video with utter dismay where women and children at the IDP Camp wept about being susceptible to Malaria and other bacteria diseases due to lack of healthcare treatment and no use of mosquitoes nets in the open classrooms.

” This shows that the government only brought these people from frying pan to fire if they are not cared for enough.

“For the sake of human empathy, these are people who already are going through emotional torture because they lost all their livelihoods and loved ones in a twinkle of an eye and I think it is only right to show them adequate love by making life more comfortable for them until the community is fully rejuvenated.

“I am calling on the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sherrif Oborevwori to instruct relevant agencies of the state to as a matter of urgency meet these people with adequate healthcare facilities and healthcare delivery to immunize them against impeding diseases.

” He gave an excuse of being dettered by the military from entering Okuama the other time, now this Ewu we are talking about, is he being stopped by the military to enter Ewu-Urhobo too?

“I am also calling on the leaders of Urhobo, particularly the kings of the 24 kingdoms to show love to their people, shun politics of shenanigans and be responsible to them like it is in other climes.

“They should remember that this is the second time a Yoruba President is destroying communities in the Niger Delta. First was Obasanjo at Odi in 1999 and now Tinubu against Okuama.

“It is so sad that our people are being killed because of a natural deposit in their own land.

“The government should remember that when one is being pushed to the wall, he will be left with no option than to retaliate and avoid pushing the people of Niger Delta into anarchy.

“I will not spare the Urhobo Progress Union. As the foremost interest group in Urhobo land, the UPU has not done enough to show love to the Okuama people at the IDP Camp, they should visit the IDPs with food and other livelihoods amenities.

“Finally, I urge the government, relevant agencies and groups to show more empathy to the people displaced unjustly from their community without hope of going back anytime soon and give them a sense of belonging, hope and care as co humans” Gen. Ejiwealth concluded.
