Cultism in Nigeria

There was a clash between suspected members of two cult groups, Black Axe and the Deybam Confraternities which have shattered the lives of at least two persons in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

According to a firsthand source who pleaded anonymity revealed to News Men on Wednesday that the incident occurred on Sunday in Eket.

Adding that the Black Axe confraternity had a birthday party in honour of a member at a night club in Eket which saw some unsolicited presence of members of the Deybam confraternity in attendance.

He said, the uninvited presence of the intruding cult group herald misunderstanding leading to a fracas between the host confranity and the intruding cult group which claimed the life on one member of the uninvited confraternity.

The source said that the Deybam confraternity member was stabbed with bottles and later stoned to death between 11p.m on Sunday and 12 a.m. the following morning.

“There was noise and a lot of argument which led to the death of a member of the Deybam confraternity” said the source.

He also revealed that the victim died at about five hours later and the Deybam cult group avenged the death of their member and killed one member of the Black Axe around Idua Street in Eket.

Mr. Odiko MacDon, DSP, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Akwa Ibom State, confirmed the incident, but said that no arrest had been made.

He said “Yes, there was an incident like that in Eket but no arrest has been made.” and, that the suspects were however being trailed to bring them to book. He added.
