Bayelsa Guber: Alagoa Applauds Douye Diri’s Good Deeds While In NASS

A renowned Niger Deltan human/ environmental rights activists, Morris Alagoa has applauded the good deeds of distinguished Senator Douye Diri, the Flagbearer of the People Democratic Party (PDP) while in the Nigerian House of representatives.

Alagoa while narrating his personal experience with the PDP Flagbearer in the forthcoming Governorship election in Bayelsa State, said Douye Diri was among the very few lawmakers whose interest was not limited to the constituency he then represented.

He said Douye Diri was the only lawmaker at the National Assembly from Bayelsa State whom the Civil liberties Organization (CLO, Bayelsa Branch) and Environmental Rights Action( ERA, Bayelsa office) could easily reach; as his legislative aides were ever ready to facilitate such whenever the need arises.

Alagoa chronicling Diri’s deeds said, “I have not met Senator Douye Diri before one on one. Whatever little l know of him has been what people say and what l personally observe of him while he represented Bayelsa State at the House of Representatives; as lawmaker.

“Senator Douye Diri (then as a Rep member) was the only lawmaker at the National Assembly from Bayelsa State whom the Civil liberties Organization (CLO, Bayelsa Branch)  and Environmental Rights Action( ERA, Bayelsa office) could easily reach; as his legislative aides were ever ready to facilitate such whenever the need arises.”

Alagoa said “Although we needed achieve much, we shared information on Human and Environmental Rights related issues with his office. In fact, based on these interactions; he made some related presentations on the floor of the House. I personally received calls or SMS informing me to watch certain electronic media outlets when some of his presentations were made.”

The environmental rights activists mentioned some of the cases Douye Diri intervened while in the Nigerian House of representatives, which “include oil spills related matters, Trawlers incursion into shoreline operations and shooting our local fisher folks, Ese Oruru matter, and some other Human Rights violation cases.”

He said “Douye Diri then at the House of Representatives as a lawmaker from Bayelsa State was interested in whatever happened in the state, no matter whether it was outside the Yenagoa/Kolokuma Federal constituency he represented.” He wished him good luck as joined the race to Creek Haven.
