Bayelsa Guber Poll: APC Assures Voters Free, Fair And Credible Exercise

Mr. Timipre Sylva, candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Bayelsa has promised to ensure free, fair and credible election in the November 11th Governorship election.

Sylva gave this assurance through his party’s State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Doifie Buokoribo on Wednesday while responding to a publication that alleged that “Bayelsa APC and its candidate Sylva Move to Compromise INEC.”

The Bayelsa APC denied the allegation that it’s making moves to compromise the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the poll.

The statement reads:

“Our attention has been drawn to a malicious and provocative publication by a faceless group with sinister motives titled “Busted! Bayelsa APC, Sylva Move to Compromise INEC… recruits INEC’s ad hoc staff for Guber Election” to misinform and mislead the public about a purported plot by the All-Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State and our gubernatorial candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva to compromise INEC in the recruitment of ad hoc staff for the November 11 elections in the state.

“It is against the policy of our party to respond to faceless groups and individuals whose identity is unknown, hiding behind pseudonyms to dole out lies to mislead the public. Nevertheless, we chose to set the records straight to avoid a situation where such blatant lies and mischievous stories could be misconstrued as the true position of things.

“We put on record that at no time has the APC in Bayelsa State or our guber candidate instructed anyone to collate names of our members to be recruited as INEC’s ad hoc staff. We understand perfectly that in the heat arising from the massive support being enjoyed by the APC in Bayelsa State and our candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, desperate politicians and pseudo groups belonging to the other side, in their panic mode have begun to spread lies to misinform and dis-inform our people in order to mislead them. The APC is sure to win the November 11 election clean and clear without any form of compromise of national institutions.

“The said publication is simply borne out of ignorance of the procedure of recruiting INEC’s ad hoc staff. It is pertinent to educate the purveyors of that fake news that different categories of INEC’s ad hoc staff are recruited from federal institutions, especially federal universities, federal colleges of education or federal Polytechnics, or from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and not necessarily from the public. It is only in areas where members of the NYSC are not up to the number of staff required that INEC recruits from people who may have concluded their youth service in the last three years.

“We wish to inform the public that our opponents in the state have set up propaganda cells, who meet on regular basis to cook up fake and misleading stories to paint our party and our candidate in bad light. They tried to paint Chief Sylva as a violent man but they failed woefully. They tried to paint him as a non-performer when he was Governor of Bayelsa State and Minister for State Petroleum Resources, but failed in that bid too. They tried to fabricate stories about his stance in the last Presidential Primaries of our party but met the brick walls.

“We predict that more of such misinformation and dis-information campaigns would be doled out in the coming days, but the discerning public should note this and vote their unpopular candidate out.

“We assure all Bayelsans that the November 11 election will be free, fair and credible and the APC will triumph. We thank all Bayelsans and non-indigenes who are supporting our party and our candidate whose time as Governor Bayelsans and people residing in the state witnessed real progress and not the prosperity we see only on billboards.”
