Buhari Orders Intensified Action Against Resurgent Cultism In Rivers State.

President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the resurgence of cultist killings in Rivers State and ordered for increased community and law enforcement action against its escalation.

Recall that at least eight (8) people were killed in a recent cult related clash in Ngbuodohia village in Rumuolumeni community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Bight News gathered that the armed hoodlums invaded the community, moving from house to house in search of rival cultist in the area and succeeded in killing eight of their target.

However, the Chairman of Rumuolumeni Community Development Committee, Sunny Odum who confirmed the incident to our correspondent expressed concerns about the incident to which he said claimed lives of eight people.

Odum however enjoined residents not to panic over the incident and should go about their normal business as security operatives have been deployed with the help of the community people to track down the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to book.

In a similar development, hoodlums had also attacked another community in Khana local government area, in Rivers State killing seven young men on Sunday 7th April 2019.

In response to reports of the resurgence of cultism leading to loss of lives in Rivers State, President Buhari calls on law enforcement agencies to intensify their efforts to end the menace before it further escalates.

A statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Garba Shehu, on Tuesday , “the President urges quick and effective intervention by community and civic leaders in support of law enforcement efforts, in all such areas bedeviled by cultist attacks and inter-communal violence.”
