YENAGOA-The Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Honourable Justice Kate Abiri has approved the setting up of a mobile court on covid-19 for violators of lockdown.
Bight News gathered from a statement issued by Freston Akpor, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Orientation, that Four magistrates are to preside over the courts which will run two shifts of morning and afternoon daily.
According to the Chief Judge “the mobile court will commence sitting on Monday next week at the Swali Ultra modern market.”
The move is part of measures put in place by the State government to prevent and forestall the eventual outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic in the state.
Mr. Akpor also stated that violators especially traders at market squares will be tried by prosecutors from the Ministry of Environment.
“Violators of the various sanctions, particularly traders at the market will be put on trial with prosecutors to be drawn from arresting officers from the Environmental Sanitation Authority, Ministry of Environment and officers of other law enforcement agencies.
The Chief Judge also outshrined penalty of fine and or community service to offenders.
“Offenders will be liable to such penalties as fine or community service or both.” He stated.
