Militants numbering about twenty at the early hours of today attacked the country home of the Former President, Goodluck Jonathan in Otuoke Community of Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

The residence was attacked around 2a.m, few hours after Jonathan decided to move to his Yenagoa home at about 12a.m

Bight News gathered that the unknown gunmen were repelled by the Military men stationed behind the house.

However one soldier was killed while another one was injured.

Eyewitness say the gunmen launched the attack with a dynamite thrown into Jonathan’s residence which blew off the roof of a small cottage building inside the residence.

According to sources, two soldiers stationed behind the house confronted the armed men and engaged them in heavy shootout.

It was gathered that the gunmen, escaped after sighting the Armoured Personnel Carrier which was moving to reinenforce the soldiers.

The source said the gunmen abandoned a boat filled with blood and were moving some bodies of their colleague into another boat.

A close source told our correspondent that Former President Goodluck Jonathan later arrived at the scene at about 3.30a.m in company of the Commander of the 3rd Brigade, Elele and the Bayelsa Commissioner of Police inspecting the damages.

At the time of filing this report security has been beefed up and movement has been restricted in the area.
