SENATOR EWHRUDJAKPO REAFFIRMS HIS
QUEST FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
The Senator representing the people of Bayelsa West in the Nigerian Senate, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has reaffirmed his quest to contribute toward the sustainable development in Bayelsa state. Senator Ewhrudjakpo stated this in Abuja while addressing newsmen immediately after his swearing in yesterday 11th June, 2019.
The Senator who reaffirmed his readiness to fulfill his campaign promises which include; bridge building, accessibility, empowerment development and restructuring, said his target among other things, is to ensure a knowledge base Bayelsa State. He said his vision is to collaborate with his colleagues in National Assembly, particularly his colleagues from Bayelsa State to move motions and sponsor bills that will improve the people’s standard of living.
The senator said he would collaborate with his colleagues to empower young people in State through education, to take advantage the knowledge base economy. According to him, a society of educated young people will be more peaceful and viable. He also reiterated his intent to empower women among his constituents. He intend to do this by encouraging cooperatives and Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs), through the institutionalization of corporative societies.
He said, there will be entrepreneural development, through the cooperative mechanism which has made the Kenya economy the most effective one in Africa. And so, there will be cooperatives for rice farmers, fish farmers, plantain farmers, cassava farmers, sand mining and other small businesses. This will make women in the area to be self-reliant.
The lawmaker who lamented that the Niger Delta have been severally marginalised in terms of appointments and job placements, He hinted on ensuring the implementation of the Federal Capital Principle to give employment opportunities to young Bayelsans. He alleged that Bayelsa State have the lowest number of staff in the federal civil service commission. He vowed to ensure that the marginalisation of Bayelsans in during job placements and appointment is addressed properly for the state and people to have fair share of every opportunity meant for Nigerians.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo disclosed that he and his colleagues have an agenda to push for the restructuring of Nigeria; a country where every state will be self-reliant and productive. The federal lawmaker said argued the present feeding bottles system of federal allocation has only rendered most states less productive and moribund. According to Ewhrudjakpo, every state in Nigeria is endowed with various natural resources that could change the fortune of Nigerians therein, if properly harnessed.
He said recent reports revealed that over 9billions of naira is being generated annually from illegal mining in Zamfara State and other Northern states. To him it shown that every state has resources. He said Bayelsa State will be more productive if Nigeria is restructured; that Bayelsa Will not depend on oil alone. He said Bayelsa State, like every other state of the federation is endowed with numerous resources, like palm, cassava, plantains, sand among others.
