The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled supplementary elections for states where elections were declared inconclusive for Saturday 23rd March 2019. The states are; Kano, Plateau, Benue, Adamawa, Bauchi and Sokoto.
A statement signed by Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Edducation, said “the commission met today, 12th March 2019 and reviewed the conduct of the 29 Governorship and 991 State constituency elections held on 9th March 2019.”
The Commission had declared winners in the Governorship elections in 22 states. While elections in six (6) states were declared inconclusive. The commission said supplementary elections will also hold in all the constituencies the country where state assembly elections were inconclusive and winners could not be declared.
The commission said details of all the constituencies where state assembly elections were declared inconclusive, including number of polling units and registered voters, will be published on the commission’s website on Wednesday 13th March, 2019.
Bight News had reported that elections in six states and state constituencies were declared inconclusive due to INEC, combinations of reasons, mainly discontinuation of use of card readers, over voting among others.
