…Calls On Karimo To Exhibit The Spirit Of Sportsmanship
…Says It’s A Mandate To Serve The People

The senator elect in Bayelsa West senatorial district, Mr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo has expressed his profound gratitude to God almighty for ensuring his victory at the just concluded last Saturday poll. Lawrence also thanked the governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson and the leadership of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa West for finding him worthy to fly the party flag at the poll. He passionately expressed his gratitude to the people of Bayelsa West who came out in their numbers to give him and his party – PDP victory at the poll.

Mr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo was declared winner of the last Saturday Bayelsa West Senatorial election and returned elected by the district returning officer, Mr. Raimi Lasisi at Sagbama the headquarters of Bayelsa West senatorial district, having polled the highest votes (49,912), flooring his closest rival, Mr. Mathew Karimo who scored 20219 votes.

Addressing press men in Yenagoa, Tuesday 26th February, 2019, Lawrence dedicated his landslide victory to God and the people of Bayelsa West, particularly Governor Henry Seriake Dickson whose government has done well for the people in the district. He appreciated the party leadership for their benevolence, adding that he will make them proud in the Nigerian Senate.

The senator elect used the medium to reiterate his assurance to source employment and empowerment opportunities for the youths and people of his senatorial district, support the state government to consolidate on his achievements on infrastructures in Bayelsa West and to advocate for the restructuring of Nigeria, adding that he will ensure bridge building among ijaw people within and outside Nigeria.

Mr. Lawrence who called on his closest rival Mr. Mathew Karimo whom he described as his brother, to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship and send his congratulatory as modern day politics demands, said politics is just a game and for every election there can only be a winner at a time. Adding that, he, having been declared winner of the poll with a wide margin, he should congratulate and work with him to develop Bayelsa West. That by virtue of the chieftaincy title conferred on him as the “Amatolomo-wei I” of Adagbabiri community and by extension as an ijaw man he remain his brother.

“I also want to thank his excellency, governor Henry Seriake Dickson and the leaders of People Democratic Party in Bayelsa West, for finding me, an infant in politics to represent the senatorial district in the Nigerian Senate.

“I am humbled; clearly the votes the people gave me is a vote for confidence and all the Dickson government has done in Bayelsa West.

“The victory is dedicated to God, the governor, the people of Bayelsa West and the campaign organisation. We have a mandate to create job, and empower our people, advocate for restructuring of Nigeria and build bridges of unity”.

“Politics is a just a gave. I call on Mr. Mathew Karimo to come and join hand with us. That is the right thing everyone whose ambition is not selfish would do after election. I call on him to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship and suggest to us what he feels should have been done in the interest of the people; we’ll do them. This I would have done if he had won.”

“Karimo is a good man, he would have won if he had contested under PDP”. From the results released so far in Bayelsa State, APC is an expired drug in the state, the senator elect said.
