The Policeman who allegedly shot a serving youth corps member and a Peace Mass Driver over parking rights, is currently in detention at the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, Yenagoa.
A statement by the Bayelsa State Command, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Asinim Butswat, says the suspect was arrested on the order of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Uche Anozia.
“The authorities of Bayelsa Police Command has arrested and taken into custody one Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel for suspicion of Discreditable Conduct and Unlawful Use of his Firearm. The suspect, a male NCO, who was arrested on the orders of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Uche Anozia is currently in detention at the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, Yenagoa.” the Police authority says.
The statement added that, the unfortunate incident leading to the arrest of the Police officer happened on 6th January, 2020 when a PMF personnel on duty in a Fidelity bank in Yenagoa had an altercation with a driver of a Peace Mass commercial bus over parking rights.
“In the ensuing argument, the policeman allegedly pulled the trigger of his rifle injuring the driver and one other occupant of the bus.” the statement added.
Recalled that, Bight News had earlier reported that a Police officer attached to Fidelity Bank located at the Ekeki area of Yenagoa opened fire on a Peace Mass Driver and a Corp member for parking in front of the Bank. The badly injured victims were rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Yenagoa.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Command while calling for calmness, condemned the shooting incident.
While expressing his sympathy with the injured victims, family and friends, he has equally promised that the case will be comprehensively, speedily and conclusively investigated, and all indicted persons brought to justice.
