Bayelsa East Young Leaders Throw Weight Behind Douye Diri/ Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo Candidacy

Young leaders under the aegis of Bayelsa East Young leaders forum have thrown their weight behind the candidacy of Sen. Douye Diri/ Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo ahead of the November 16th Governorship Poll in Bayelsa State. The group has its members from all the 36 wards in Ogbia, Nembe and Brass Local Government Areas of the state.

The coordinator of the group, Comr Inegite David who led his wards’ coordinators and secretaries to pay a solidarity visit on the People Democratic Party Deputy Governor candidate in the forthcoming governorship polls, Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo in Yenagoa, vowed to mobilise supports for the victory of People Democratic Party (PDP) at the poll. He said the duo of Sen. Douye Diri and Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo will make Bayelsa State proud when elected as Governor and Deputy Governor respectively.

“Our members cut across the three Local Government Areas in Bayelsa East senatorial district. They are grassroot folks that control and coordinate the party in their various communities, units and wards.

“Our mandate is to ensure that PDP wins in the forthcoming elections. And we will do our best to ensure PDP have a landslide victory come 16th November.”

Speaking, the Secretary of the group, Felix Isele averred that Sen. Douye Diri and Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo have over the years displayed competency and capacity to serve in the offices they seek to occupy. He said available records shown that the duo of Sen. Douye Diri and Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo have proven track records in leadership and governance. He said Douye/ Lawrence PDP joint ticket is in the interest of Bayelsa State, adding that having them as Governor and deputy governor of will advance developmental fronts in Bayelsa state.

“The APC has no formidable structures to win elections in Bayelsa State. We believe in the candidacy of Sen. Douye Diri and Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo and we will mobilise supports for them.

“Douye Diri and Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo are very competent Bayelsan leaders. They are both Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo was the former Commissioner for works and he contributed immensely toward the development of Bayelsa state”

The group vowed to resist any attempt by the APC whose candidate lack the capacity to clearly articulate issues and advance the cause of progress and prosperity for the people of Bayelsa State within and outside the state, to rig and hijack results against the wish of Bayelsans come November 16th. The group enjoined Bayelsans to queue behind the candidate of the People Democratic Party to consolidate on the achievements of Governor Dickson led restoration government, to advance development in the interest of Bayelsans.

In his response, the running mate of Sen. Douye Diri in the November 16th Guber Poll, Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo appreciated the Young leaders leaders from Bayelsa East for the gesture, supports and solidarity. He assured them of necessary supports to have them achieved their goal.

Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo however seized the opportunity to correct the wrong impression that the People Democratic Party (PDP) has not done well for the people of Bayelsa East senatorial district. Sen. Ewhrudjakpo said the People of Bayelsa East have gained much from PDP led administrations in the state, as such he believed that they will do well to reciprocate the gesture.

“There is this impression that much has not been done in Bayelsa State, but that is a wrong impression. I am very much aware that when we came in 2012 there was no vehicle going into Nembe. SETRACO was out of the road. We brought SETRACO back; I myself and the deputy governor John Gboribiogha Jonah were the first to drive a motor to Nembe on the 13th of December 2013.

“Bayelsa East has PDP; The Bayelsa East has enjoyed PDP. Goodluck was a deputy governor for 6 years through PDP; he was Governor for two years through PDP. He was vice president for two years through PDP and he became president for 6 years through PDP.

“Gboribiogha John Jonah – Bayelsa East has been a Deputy Governor for 8 years through PDP. And Chief Timipre Sylva was a Governor for 5 years through PDP” Sen Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo analyzed. He enjoined the people of Bayelsa East to preserve and protect the party that gave them much, that only then, they and other Bayelsans will continue to enjoy dividends of democracy which the Douye Diri led administration will ubiquitously distribute to all Bayelsans in ensuring a prosperous state.

Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo said their plan for the youths is robust; it’s not about giving them stipends. He said their plan is to oblige every youth the opportunity to decide what he/she can do for his/herself and become self-reliant, productive and self dependent. “Our government will encourage and support the youths to thrive in their fields of endeavours,” Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo said.
