OFONI – Bight News reports that hoodlums have killed a young male motorcycle (Okarda) rider, identified as “Okokotu Oghenevwogaga” in Bayelsa State. The deceased who hail from Ofoni federated communities, in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state, was reportedly killed by a gang of three hoodlums, simply to have his fairly used motorbike, his source of his livelihood.
Bight News gathered that, on Sunday 14th July, 2019, three boys from Toru-Orua community, Sagbama Local Government Area of the state asked the Okarda rider to conveyed them to a nearby community – Bulo-Orua, of the same Local Government Area. That, when they got to “the sharp bend corner before Bulo-Orua community, the passengers asked him to stop, for one of them to urinate.
“As soon as he stopped for them, they brought out weapons and attacked him to death. They shot him twice and then stabbed him in the stomach.
“Dumped him in a nearby poll of water in the bush and then made away with his new motorbike,” our source said.
Bight News gathered that, the Okarda Rider, his family folks went out in his search the following morning when he failed to return the previous night after work. In the process, they found his bike with two young boys at Aleibiri, a nearby community to the Okarda rider’s hometown; in the verge of selling the motorcycle.
According to eye witness report, “one of the boys was caught, while the rest escaped into the forest.” Source said, “the one caught confessed when asked about the whereabout of the owner of the Bike, that he and two others had killed and dumped him in a nearby bush around Bulo-Orua the previous day.
“The hoodlum confessed that they are from Toru – Orua community. He described where he and his colleagues dumped the Okarda Rider.
“The hoodlum identified as Kperekpere was out of anger mercilessly beaten and handed over to the Police; The Okarda Rider have been found dead in a bush close to Bulo-Orua, where the hoodlum mentioned.
“His body has been taken to Ofoni” source said.
Bight News gathered that, pained by the gruesome killing of the law-abiding Okarda rider and others illustrious sons and daughters of the community at different occasions, enraged youths of the community storm Toru – Orua in demand for the arrest of remaining hoodlums at large. A situation that called for a reprisal attack.
They were attacked with arms and three of their bikes were damaged. Source said the hoodlum caught with the Bike later died in Police custody.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Sagbama Local Government Area, Hon. Michael Magbisa has called for calmness in the areas. He made the call yesterday, Wednesday 17th, July 2019, when he and team of security stakeholders led a delegation to Ofoni and Toru-Orua Communities, to find first hand information about the gruesome incident.
Magbisa condenmed the killing of Ofoni Bike rider by some hoodlums from Toru-Orua, and the reprisal attacks. He vowed to collaborate with security stakeholders in ensuring that other who are involved in the dastardly act are brought to justice to serve as deterrent to others.
